The new trailer of the fantasy epic, Brahmastra, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Amitabh Bachchan wows audiences
On Guru Purnima on Wednesday, Ayan Mukerji released a
new behind-the-scenes featurette introducing audiences to the world of his
upcoming film, Brahmastra. The fantasy epic is inspired by Indian mythology and
introduces audiences to a new homegrown superhero.
Brahmāstra is a work of fiction. It celebrates Indian
spirituality. On this very auspicious day of Guru Purnima, Ayan Mukherji wanted
to share a little more in depth about the the concept of Brahmāstra – a movie
through which he personally found himself transforming into a forever-student
of the infinite wisdom that exists in our ancient Indian roots.
In the four-minute video, Ayan explains the film's premise,
which he describes as the first instalment in a shared cinematic universe based
on the concept of 'astras.' These 'astras,' or weapons, are based on the
elements — earth, wind, fire, and water — and can even harness the power of
animals like monkeys and bulls. But there is one 'astra' that is more potent
than all of them: the 'Brahmastra.' The film 'begins with an image' of a group
of sages meditating in the mountains and channelling the 'Brahm shakti.' These
sages (who call themselves the Brahmansh) have remained hidden throughout
history as a'secret society,' assisting humanity as it evolves and progresses.
Ayan concludes the video by explaining why his hero is named
Shiva: he is a devotee of Lord Shiva, whom Ayan describes as "the God most
dear to (him) personally, the most mystical, the all-powerful, and (his)
greatest inspiration."
Part One of Brahmastra: On September 9, Shiva will be
released in theatres. Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna, Mouni Roy, and
others also appear in the film. The film will also be released in Tamil,
Telugu, and Malayalam in an attempt to break into the South Indian markets.
