The Ultimate Computer
Today’s computers register and process huge amounts of information, which is a colossal compared to the amount of information that human beings themselves, as a species, can process.
But that’s isn’t a challenge. The challenge is how much more can a computer process and how fast. The challenge is to push the limits of computing.
Seth Lloyd, a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at MIT, observes, "Over the past half century, the amount of information that computers are capable of processing and the rate at which they process it has doubled every 18 months. A variety of technologies — most recently, integrated circuits — have enabled this exponential increase in information processing power.”
This means, we can look forward for the ultimate computer in the near future.
